Volunteering Week (1-7 June 2021)
Today (1st June 2021), marks the start of Volunteers’ Week – a time to say a big thank you for the contributions millions of people make across the UK through volunteering, especially during the pandemic.
Not only does volunteering make a huge difference to communities, but also to organisations such as ours.
For over 25 years, Volunteering at LHA London forms a huge part of our continued success and the organisation’s charitable aims of ‘giving back’. Not only does their valued contribution allow us to keep our accommodation affordable, it enables us to work with a range of other smaller charities who specialise in providing support to young people experiencing homelessness.
As well as receiving the comfort of shared accommodation and food, volunteers at each of our London based hostels assist with the day to day running of operations. This can include anything from lending a hand front of house and dealing with guest enquiries to supporting the housekeeping and maintenance teams.
For many of LHA London volunteers, the experience has enabled them to immerse themselves into a new culture, helped improve their language skills or enabled them to start their studies or a new job – with many saying it was one of the best decisions they ever made.
So, as we celebrate the 37th annual Volunteers’ Week taking place during the #MonthofCommunity, I encourage everyone to think about and join in with activities happening in your local community. And finally, if you or anyone you know might be interested in volunteering at LHA, we’d love to hear from you as we are always looking for new people to join our friendly team.
