Outdoor Cinema You Can’t Miss This Summer

Outdoor cinema in London has become increasingly popular over the years. With summer 2019 just around the corner, everyone in London is gearing up for another season of outdoor film screenings. We don’t want you missing out on the best outdoor cinema in London, so here are some venues you NEED to visit in the city this summer…

Southbank Centre

This summer at Southbank Centre (only a 15 minute walk from Friendship House), they’re putting on some great classic films on the Riverside Terrace of Royal Festival Hall. Some screenings are even free! If you’re a fan of films like Little Shop of Horrors, Moulin Rouge and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, you won’t want to miss this.

Royal Opera House’s BP Big Screens

Another great free screening in London is the Royal Opera House’s outdoor events to introduce ballet and opera to the general public. These pop-up screens can be seen in Trafalgar Square, Hammersmith, Wembley Park and White City. Don’t miss out on the likes of Romeo and Juliet, Carmen and The Marriage of Figaro as they’re screened live from stage. Bring your friends and a picnic, and get in early to experience the pre-performance content half an hour before the curtain goes up.

Time Out Live presents Movies on the River

Make the most of the long summer evenings by taking a cruise along the Thames while you kick back with a film. Time Out is holding regular screenings on a boat, where you can enjoy some of your favourite films and the sights of London. Starting at Tower Hill, watch both new releases and old classics with London’s skyline at sunset as your backdrop.

Rooftop Film Club

One of the most popular outdoor cinema scenes in London, Rooftop Film Club has screenings in Stratford, Peckham and Shoreditch (only a 30 minute bus journey from Davies Court). Their season runs from May to September, and as well as a mix of new releases and cult classics, they boast carefully selected food vendors, ice cream and luxury seat packages. The screening time tables are released a month at a time, so act quickly, as they often sell out!

Backyard Cinema: LA Lights

Located in the ever-popular Camden (a stone’s throw from Belsize House), you can be transported to Hollywood with Backyard Cinema’s theme: LA Nights. Sing-a-longs, palm trees and cocktails, it’ll feel just like the west coast, but for a fraction of the cost. Films you can see include: A Star is Born, Captain Marvel, Grease, Dirty Dancing, La La Land and more. The weekend showings sell out quickly, but there’s plenty of great films to catch during the week.
