Meet the Residents! – Carmen, Belsize House
Do you have lots of questions about making the move to London? Not sure where to start? Wondering what your fellow residents would be like at LHA London? Or perhaps you’re just worried about finding cheap accommodation in London? Moving to a new place can be daunting, but it doesn’t need to be. We caught up with some of our residents to give you an insight on living with LHA London.
Here at LHA, we are all about providing students and young professionals affordable accommodation in London so that they can live their best lives. Gone are the days where you had no option but to live at home, we will provide you a home away from home where you can still live independently and have fun too.
But don’t just take out word for it, let’s hear it from our residents themselves. We had a chat with a resident of Belsize House, Carmen, and talked all about her time in London and living with LHA.
Hi Carmen! What has brought you to London?
“I came to London to do an internship at a London hospital as part of my PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. The group I joined is the most experienced in the world with the rare diseases I study, so it was a good opportunity for my future. The grant finished in late December, but I decided to stay in London. Since January, I am currently working as a barista to make some money and so no depend on my parents while I keep working on my PhD project (my PhD is not funded and now is just DATA analysis, so there is no need to be in the laboratory in Spain).”
What do you like about staying with us at Belsize House?
“From the very beginning I have loved my stay in Belsize House, the staff are so nice. And it is also so so good, because when you move alone to a new country and you don’t know anyone, thanks to Belsize House I’ve made such good friendships that will last for a long time. We are all living this new life in a foreign country together, supporting each other, having fun… It takes me just a 5 minute walk to get to work. The advantages of living near the place where I work is that first of all you save money on London transport, such a good thing taking into account how expensive this city is in general and also because of the quality of life, I mean being able to walk to work in a 9 million inhabitants city is nice, very nice.”
Would you recommend LHA London to someone wanting to live in London?
“In fact I have already recommended it to one of my friends from Spain and she is currently working as volunteer staff in Belsize House. We do really feel this place is our home and everyone around here is very nice and which makes things easier.”
